GPIF II state machine/short packet state

I'm working on a project where I'm using RX1 and TX2 endpoints of GPIF which seem to be unused on bladeRF 2?
When checking out GPIF FSM for RF link, I noticed that FX3 firmware uses a different cyfxgpif_RFlink.h unrelated to project files under RFlink.cydsn. There are states for short packets which are not in the project files. I didn't find corresponding code in VHD files. There is a git commit for the GPIF file but nothing else. Out of curiosity, is that variable length packet support dropped or what is the idea?
